Abstract

Ethnomathematics is a field of study that examines or shows the relationship between culture and mathematics. The concept of ethnomathematics can provide great potential to improve mathematics learning in the classroom. Ethnomathematics also provides a learning environment that creates good and fun motivation and is free from the notion that mathematics is scary. This research is qualitative descriptive field research. From the qualitative descriptive research, the writer made observations and directly analyzed the data obtained from the field. The purpose of this research is to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the research subject, such as behavior, perception, motivation, action, etc., holistically, and by way of description in the form of words and language, in a special context that naturally by utilizing various scientific methods. Based on this research, it was found that traditional games in ethnomathematics are more dominant in geometric materials such as flat shapes and spatial shapes. Based on the literature review conducted, traditional games in ethnomathematics can be developed as teaching materials for learning mathematics.
